Pediatric
Aquatic Therapy
&
Aquatic
Spasticity Techniques
Course Description: This course will focus on
unique treatment methods to address sensory processing, motor skill development
and developmental progressions. The practitioner will learn specific, evidence
based, aquatic techniques that are instrumental in addressing issues involving
balance, posture, motor coordination, muscle tone, social integration, behavior
and self-esteem. The three dimensional and hydrodynamic aquatic environment
allows for developmental techniques that can influence and strengthen the
functional aspects between the vestibular system and the musculoskeletal system.
The practitioner will learn how to aquatically influence the sensory-motor
links utilizing selected treatment patterns from the Bad Ragaz Ring Method,
Halliwick©, Unpredictable Command Technique©, Watsu¨ and Myofascial Aquatics©
and Adaptive Aquatics. The aquatic practitioner will be introduced to effective
hands-on inhibitory techniques for spasticity. The practitioner will also learn to utilize inhibitory and

assist, gait training and independent movement skills. This group will discuss
and apply aquatic techniques and treatments to be used with a child through
dynamic pool labs and on site case studies.
